The Sovereignty of God in the Life of a College Student Part 1

As a college student who's graduating in May, I sometimes have trouble trusting God and His sovereignty. The truth is that I have nothing to fear. I serve a faithful God who has never let me down. There is nothing to fear because God has everything planned out for me. Though I don't see it fully, He has everything under control. Two Sundays ago, Mrs. LaMacchia reminded me of this in a prophetic word she gave that Sunday. She said God wanted to encourage people who had trouble trusting God. She said for those people God was wanting to bring them into a place of more dependence on God. Looking back on that, I see that God has brought me into a place where I need to rely on His faithfulness. It's because I have nothing to offer. Not only am I a sinner in total need of God's grace, but in my particular situation I bring nothing to the table. I will have a 2-year Applied Associates degree in a field where there is not many opportunities. Also, with my commitment to this local church, it limits my options on where to work. So in my case in particular, I need to trust God, because there is nothing in myself I can trust. It is a very humbling experience to be in.
We all have to remind ourselves that God is faithful. He has been, is now, and will forever be. The song "He's Always Been Faithful" by Sara Groves really illustrates this well.

Morning by morning I wake up to find
The power and comfort of God’s hand in mine
Season by season I watch Him, amazed
In awe of the mystery of His perfect ways
All I have need of, His hand will provide
He’s always been faithful to me.

I can’t remember a trial or a pain
He did not recycle to bring me gain
I can’t remember one single regret
In serving God only, and trusting His hand
All I have need of, His hand will provide
He’s always been faithful to me.

This is my anthem, this is my song
The theme of the stories I’ve heard for so long
God has been faithful, He will be again
His loving compassion, it knows no end
All I have need of, His hand will provide
He’s always been faithful, He’s always been faithful
He’s always been faithful to me.

I have to remember that I have seen God's faithfulness again and again and again and again. Throughout my short 19 years of living God has never let me down. He never once has stopped pouring out grace in my life. There is a verse in Jeremiah that has served me in this area. It is from Jeremiah 32:38-41:
And they shall be my, and I will be their God.
I will give them once heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their own good and the good of their children after them.
I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will no turn away from doing good to them. And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me.
I will rejoice in doing them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul.

Isn't that an amazing verse! I mean " I will rejoice in doing them good"! That God rejoices in doing good to us! That gives me hope. Another one of these verses is Jeremiah 29:11:
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for wholeness and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Meditating on these scriptures help us remember God's faithfulness and goodness to us. They help point us to the ultimate sovereignty of God. They help us remember that as followers of Christ "all things work together for good" They remind us of what a wonderful and powerful God we serve!
